These Terms of Service govern your use of the Hachette Books Publishing website and the services we provide. By using our website or engaging our services, you agree to these terms.

Our services

We provide writing, editing, design, publishing, marketing, website and coaching services for authors. The specific scope, deliverables, timeline and price for each project are set out in a written proposal or agreement, which takes precedence over these general terms where they differ.

Ownership and rights

You retain full ownership of your manuscript and all rights to your work. Upon full payment, ownership of the final deliverables created for you, including edited manuscripts, cover designs, illustrations and formatted files, transfers to you. We may display completed work in our portfolio unless you ask us not to.

Your responsibilities

You confirm that you own or have permission to use any material you provide, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights or break any law. You are responsible for reviewing and approving deliverables at each stage.

Payments

Payment terms are set out in your proposal. Work begins once the agreed deposit or payment is received. Third-party costs, such as ISBNs, printing, advertising spend and retailer fees, are your responsibility unless stated otherwise.

Revisions and timelines

Each service includes the revision rounds described in your proposal. Timelines depend on timely feedback and materials from you, and delays in approvals may extend delivery dates.

Refunds

Refund eligibility depends on the stage of work completed and is described in your service agreement. Work already completed and approved is non-refundable.

No guarantee of sales

We provide professional services designed to give your book the best chance of success, but we cannot guarantee sales, rankings, reviews or awards, which depend on many factors outside our control.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to our services is limited to the amount you paid for the specific service giving rise to the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page.
