Illustration that does more than decorate

In a picture book, the illustrations carry half the story. They show what the words leave out, set the emotional tone and give young readers something new to discover on every reread. In non-fiction, a clear diagram or illustration can explain in seconds what would take a page of text. Great illustration makes a book memorable.

We match your project with an illustrator whose portfolio fits your vision, then work through a structured process so the art is consistent, on schedule and exactly what you imagined.

Book illustration FAQs

What illustration styles do you offer?

Watercolor, digital painting, pencil and ink, cartoon, realistic, flat vector, collage and more. You can review illustrator portfolios and choose the style that fits your story.

How many illustrations does a picture book need?

A standard 32-page picture book usually has 12–16 full spreads or around 24–32 single-page illustrations, plus the cover. We’ll plan the exact count with you during storyboarding.

Will the character look consistent throughout the book?

Yes. We start with character sheets showing your characters from multiple angles and expressions. Once you approve them, every illustration follows the same design.

Who owns the illustrations?

You receive full commercial rights to the final artwork, so you can use it in your book, merchandise, marketing and future editions.

How long does illustration take?

A fully illustrated picture book typically takes eight to twelve weeks from character design to final art. Smaller projects such as spot illustrations or chapter headers are faster.

Can you also lay out the book?

Yes. Our designers place your text and illustrations into a print-ready layout and can prepare a fixed-layout ebook as well.
